Where to take the ferry from Naples to Sorrento

Ferries and hydrofoils to Sorrento typically depart from Molo Beverello, the main passenger pier in the port of Naples. The port is right in front of the Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino) and is easily accessible from the city center on foot, by taxi and public transportation. The port is around 3 km from Napoli Centrale train station and about 7 km from Naples Capodichino Airport.

In the area around the port, you’ll find cafés, restaurants and shops, as well as hotels, ticket offices, waiting areas and luggage storage services. Parking is available in the wider Beverello area, but spaces can be limited during busy travel periods, so it’s best to arrive early.

How to get to the port in Naples

• By metro: take Metro Line 1 to Municipio, which is a short walk away (about 300 m) from Molo Beverello.
• By car: you can reach the port by following the signs for Porto / Molo Beverello / Piazza Municipio.
• From Naples Airport: take the Alibus airport shuttle to the port. The bus connects Naples Airport with Piazza Garibaldi and the port area, and the trip to the port usually takes around 35 min. A taxi from the airport to Molo Beverello normally takes around 20-25 min, depending on traffic.
• By taxi: a taxi ride from central Naples to Molo Beverello takes around 10-15 min.

Where does the ferry arrive in Sorrento?

Ferries from Naples arrive at Marina Piccola, which is the main port of Sorrento. The port is located just below the historic center and the popular Piazza Tasso, which can be reached in about 10-15 min on foot.

Keep in mind though that there are uphill streets and stairways, so you can also use the local buses and elevators that connect Marina Piccola with the upper town. Alternatively, there are also taxis right outside the port.

In the area around the port, you’ll also find bars, cafés, and restaurants with sea views, shops and kiosks selling snacks, tickets, and other travel essentials.

There are also paid parking areas for both short and long stays, car and scooter rental agencies, if you want to explore Sorrento and the surrounding area independently, as well as boat tour operators ferries connecting Sorrento with Capri, Ischia, and the Amalfi Coast.

When is the best time to book Naples - Sorrento ferry tickets

The best time to book Naples - Sorrento ferry tickets is at least 2-4 weeks in advance if you’re traveling during the high season, namely from June to early September. During this period, ferries run frequently but often sell out, especially in the morning and late afternoon, which are the most popular times to travel.

If you’re visiting during shoulder months (April-May and late September-October), booking 1–2 weeks ahead is usually enough to secure a spot on the ferry for your preferred time. For the low season (November-March), there are fewer daily crossings, but demand is much lower, so you can book your ferry tickets a few days before your trip.
