Island-hopping in Capri, Ischia and Procida

Your 4-day itinerary for Capri, Ischia and Procida from Naples

The islands in the Gulf of Naples are among the most popular destinations in southern Italy. Located just a few kilometers from the mainland, Capri, Ischia, and Procida are well-connected by ferries and hydrofoils most of the year, so you can easily explore all 3 islands even on a short trip.

Our 4-day itinerary starts in Naples, heading first to Capri, then to Ischia and Procida. You’ll spend 1 day in Capri, 2 days in Ischia and the final day in Procida.

Let's take a look at what to do each day!

Day 1: Ferry from Naples to Capri + island walks

To get the most out of your trip, we recommend taking one of the first ferries from Naples to Capri, so you’ll have the whole day to explore the island. High-speed ferries and hydrofoils for Capri usually depart from Molo Beverello in the port of Naples, though some additional services leave from Calata Porta di Massa. During the crossing, which only takes 50 min, you’ll get some first beautiful views of Capri.

When you arrive at Marina Grande, Capri's main port, you can immediately start exploring the area, strolling through the surrounding streets and shops. From there, you can reach Capri's center and its famous Piazzetta by funicular or on foot.

Next, head to the Gardens of Augustus, one of the most scenic spots in Capri with stunning views of the famous Faraglioni and Via Krupp. If you feel like walking a little further, make your way to Marina Piccola, where you can enjoy your first swim.

In the afternoon, you could explore Anacapri by visiting Villa San Michele or taking the chairlift up Monte Solaro for more breathtaking views of Capri.

To end the day, head back to the center for a sunset stroll. If you'd like to stay in the area for dinner, you'll find several restaurants with panoramic terraces along Via Camerelle and on the way to Punta Tragara.

Finally, it's time to rest up because tomorrow, you'll be changing islands. Ischia awaits!

Day 2: From Capri to Ischia

After spending your first day in Capri, it’s time to hop on a ferry to Ischia! From March to October, ferries and hydrofoils travel from Capri to Ischia, stopping at several ports, including Ischia Porto, Casamicciola Terme, Forio, and Lacco Ameno. For this itinerary, we recommend arriving at Ischia Porto because it has the most connections and can be reached in just 50 min.

After dropping off your luggage, spend a couple of hours exploring the Aragonese Castle, which you can reach with a pleasant walk along Riva Destra. From its panoramic terraces, you can admire the Gulf of Naples and Ischia's beautiful coastline.

In the afternoon, relax for a few hours at Maronti Beach on the southern coast of the island. From there, you can make your way to Sant’Angelo, one of Ischia’s most picturesque towns, for a stroll and a drink at sunset.

The next day, you'll be exploring the western side of Ischia and its famous thermal springs!

Day 3: Beaches and thermal baths in Ischia

On your second day in Ischia, we recommend heading to Forio on the island's western coast. Here, you can explore the La Mortella Gardens, a botanical garden filled with exotic plants, walking trails, and panoramic vistas. We recommend spending at least a couple of hours there, especially if you want to see the upper gardens.

After a short lunch break, it's time to head to the sea. Citara Bay, one of Forio’s most popular beaches, is the perfect place to spend a few hours swimming and relaxing in the sun.

To experience authentic Ischian life, pay a visit to the Poseidon Thermal Gardens, where you’ll find numerous thermal baths at different temperatures surrounded by lush greenery and overlooking the sea.

In the evening, we suggest watching the sunset from the Church of Soccorso, one of the island’s most famous viewpoints. The white church sits on a small cliff overlooking the sea and offers particularly spectacular views as the day comes to an end.

Day 4: From Ischia to Procida

Today, you will set sail for Procida, the last stop on your 4-day trip and the smallest island in the Gulf of Naples. Multiple ferries depart from Ischia for Procida in the morning, usually starting at around 07:10, and the crossing takes just 15 min. This means you can leave early and have most of the day to explore the island.

After arriving at Marina Grande, the island’s main port, we recommend heading to Terra Murata, Procida's highest point. Stroll through the narrow streets of the historic center on your way to the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo, where you can enjoy one of the best views of the island and take some photos.

Next, make your way down to Marina Corricella, the famous fishing village with brightly colored houses. For lunch stop at one of the waterfront restaurants and try local specialties such as spaghetti with sea urchins or a Procida lemon salad.

If you’d like to take one last swim before heading home, we recommend going to Pozzo Vecchio Beach, where some scenes from the movie Il Postino were filmed. After relaxing by the sea, it will be time to return to the port and catch the ferry from Procida to Naples.

Useful info: You can explore Procida on foot, but if you want to get around the island more quickly, you can also opt for buses and taxis or scooter rentals.

And now it’s time to head home! After 4 days in Capri, Ischia and Procida, all you have to do is make your way back to Marina Grande to catch the ferry back to Naples. The last ferry usually departs at 18:05 and takes 30-40 min to reach Molo Beverello.
