Ferry from Serifos - Athens

Where do pets stay on the ferry?

On the high-speed catamarans, your pet can stay with you, while on the conventional ferries, you also have the option of booking a pet-friendly cabin or a space in the onboard kennels.

Most ferries have designated pet-friendly areas, however pets are generally not allowed in standard cabins, lounges or dining areas. During the trip, smaller pets must be kept in their carrier, while larger pets must wear a muzzle and be kept on a leash.

Here are some useful tips for your ferry trip from Serifos to Athens:

• The port of Serifos can get quite busy, especially during the summer, so it is advisable to be there at least 45 minutes ahead of your departure. If you are traveling with a car, then you should be at the port 1.5 hr before your ferry is scheduled to set sail.
• The ride can get a bit bumpy, so if you are prone to seasickness, consider taking motion sickness medication before the trip. Your doctor or pharmacist can help you pick the best one for you.

Where to take the ferry from Serifos to Athens

Ferries to Athens set sail from the main port of Serifos, which is Livadi, on the southeastern side of the island. The coastal settlement is about 4.5 km from Chora, the capital town of Serifos.

In the port area, you will find plenty of traveler amenities, such as supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, car rentals, and hotels. Livadi is also the starting point for buses doing itineraries to beaches and more villages on the island.

How to get to the port of Serifos

• On foot: if you are in Livadi, the ferry quay is about a 5 to 10-min walk from most local hotels and shops.
• By bus (KTEL): the bus ride from Chora takes roughly 15 min, with with schedules typically synchronized with ferry arrivals and departures.
• By taxi: there are a limited number of taxis on the island, so it is wise to book one in advance through your hotel.
• By car: you can easily reach the port via the main island road, but keep in mind that parking spaces are limited in the area.

Where does the ferry arrive in Athens?

Ferries to Athens from Serifos and other islands in the Cyclades normally arrive at gates E4, E6, E7, E9, and E10 at the port of Piraeus. The port is a key gateway to the Argosaronic and Cycladic islands, and serves daily ferry connections with Crete, the Dodecanese, and the North and Southeast Aegean.

Within the port area, you can travel free of charge on the PPA bus to all port gates and the ISAP station. Around the port, you will find cafés, restaurants, and shops, as well as banks and ATMs.

The port of Piraeus is about 12 km from the center of Athens and 45 km from Athens International Airport.

Traveling onwards from Piraeus

• Metro: the Athens Metro Lines 1 and 3 serve the port directly, with Line 1 linking to central Athens and Line 3 connecting through to the airport and city center.
• Bus: several city and regional bus lines stop near the port, including direct options to key hubs, with the X96 bus linking the port directly with Athens International Airport around the clock.
• Taxi: taxi ranks are available at the port, with journeys to central Athens taking about 15-35 min depending on traffic, while a ride to the airport can last 45 min to 1 hr.
