Ferry from Positano to Sorrento

On ferries from Positano to Sorrento, children up to 1 year old travel for free, while children up to 11-12 years old pay a reduced fare, with discounts of up to 50%.

Discounted fares are also available for groups and residents.

Crossings between Positano and Sorrento are usually carried out by high-speed ferries and hydrofoils. Vessels are usually equipped with air-conditioned interior lounges and individual seating. Depending on the ferry, you can choose to stay inside or on the deck to enjoy the spectacular views of the Amalfi Coast.

Cabins and accommodation

There are no cabins on the high-speed ferries and hydrofoils that operate the Positano - Sorrento ferry route, due to the short journey. A seat on board is included in the ticket price.

Are premium seats available?

On ferries operating on the Positano - Sorrento route, you cannot book premium or business-class seats. Only standard seating is available.

Can I book a specific seat?

No, seating is generally unassigned in the passenger lounge, so we recommend arriving early to have a better chance of choosing your preferred seat.

How much luggage is allowed on the ferries?

Luggage policies vary from company to company operating the Positano - Sorrento route:

• NLG allows 1 piece of luggage, including suitcases, travel bags and backpacks with maximum dimensions of 50x30x15 cm and a weight that must not exceed 5 kg.
• On Coast Lines, Alilauro and Alilauro Gruson you can take 1 piece of luggage with a maximum size of 50x35x20 cm.
• Positano Jet considers trolley bags and all types of suitcases as luggage, regardless of weight or size. They can be taken on board with an additional charge of €3. Handbags and backpacks are free of charge.
• With Seremar, you can bring 1 bag with dimensions up to 50×35×20 cm and a weight of up to 9 kg free of charge.

Reminder: additional luggage and baggage exceeding the suggested size/weight will be subject to a surcharge.

Amenities for people with disabilities

Ferries operating from Positano to Sorrento are generally accessible to passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility.

Facilities on board include access ramps, reserved seating in the communal areas, and accessible restrooms.

Please note: some hydrofoils may not offer the full range of accessibility facilities.

Can I travel with my pet?

On the ferry Positano -  Sorrento you can travel with your pet for an additional fee. You can include the pet in your booking online. 

Small pets must remain in a pet carrier. Larger dogs must wear a muzzle and be kept on a leash.

Remember to bring all the necessary health documents, such as your pet’s vaccination record or EU pet passport, along with any supplies your pet may need during the journey.

Where to take the ferry from Positano to Sorrento

Ferries to Sorrento depart from the only pier in the small port of Positano, which is very close to the town center and the Marina Grande beach.

Near the port, there are cafes, restaurants, boat hires and nightclubs. Most of the shops are located in the streets that lead to the upper part of the town.

How to get to the port of Positano

• If you’re already in the town center: you can reach Spiaggia Grande on foot in just a few minutes, walking down Positano’s characteristic narrow streets lined with shops and boutiques.
• From the upper part of town: take the local shuttle bus ("Interno Positano"), which connects the main road above the town with the center and port area. It’s a convenient option if you want to avoid the steps, especially when traveling with heavy luggage.
• From other towns along the coast (Amalfi, Sorrento, Praiano): you can reach Positano with SITA Sud buses along the SS163 road. The bus stops in the upper part of Positano, from where you can walk or take the local shuttle down to Spiaggia Grande.

If you’re arriving by car, keep in mind that the roads are narrow and winding, while parking is very limited and quite expensive. Driving to Positano is not recommended, especially on summer weekends. A better option is to travel from nearby towns by SITA Sud bus.

There is no train station in Positano. If you prefer traveling by train, you’ll need to get off in Sorrento or Salerno and continue by SITA Sud bus.

Where does the ferry arrive in Sorrento?

Ferries and hydrofoils from Positano dock at Marina Piccola in the port of Sorrento. The port is just a 7 min walk from the town centre (Piazza Tasso) and is easily reached by public transport. Nearby, you will find bars, restaurants, shops, and several paid parking facilities for both short- and long-term stays.

Once you arrive at the port, you can easily continue your journey by car, train, or bus. The Circumvesuviana railway connects Sorrento with Naples in approximately 1 hr.
