Dubrovnik is a top destination on the Adriatic. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your trip:

• Book early: summer routes to and from Dubrovnik fill up fast. Booking in advance means better prices and peace of mind.
• Travel in early or late summer: June and September offer great weather, fewer crowds and a more relaxed vibe.
• Island-hop: make the most of your trip by exploring the beautiful islands of southern Dalmatia, such as Lastovo, Šipan and Koločep.
• Double-check your island port: some islands, such as Korčula, have multiple ports. Be sure you know which one you're headed to.
• Bring a valid ID: a valid passport or an ID accepted for international travel is required to enter Croatia. Make sure yours isn’t expired.
• Travel with kids: ferry policies vary - some companies don’t issue separate tickets for infants under 1 year (they’re registered under the parent), while others do. Always check your booking details.

Ferries to and from Dubrovnik include both conventional vessels and high-speed hydrofoils. Some routes also use catamarans.

Only conventional ferries allow vehicles (cars, motorcycles, campers, trailers). Hydrofoils and catamarans are passenger-only, though some allow bicycles.

On conventional ferries, passengers can choose from open deck seating, numbered reclining seats or cabins. Hydrofoils and catamarans offer standard seating only.

All vessels - whether ferry or hydrofoil - are equipped with snack bars or cafés. Larger vessels may have buffet or à la carte restaurants. Some also offer lounge areas, TV rooms, and scenic outdoor decks.

Each passenger is allowed at least 1 suitcase free of charge. Ferries typically allow up to 30 kg per person. Hydrofoils and catamarans generally limit baggage to 20 kg.

Pets are welcome aboard. On ferries, they can travel in outdoor areas or designated cabins. On hydrofoils, small pets must be in carriers, while larger pets must stay in external kennels.

The Dubrovnik ferry terminal is in the Gruž district, on the city’s west side, just 3 km from the Old Town. It’s a key hub for travel to the Croatian islands, Italy and Montenegro.

From Dubrovnik's Old Town, you can take a taxi or hop on public buses (lines 1A and 1B) for quick and affordable access.

If you are arriving by plane, Dubrovnik Airport is around 22 km from the port. You can get there by taxi, pre-booked transfer or airport shuttle bus (approx. €5), which stops at the central bus station next to the port.

For those traveling by car, Dubrovnik is well connected to the rest of Croatia and neighboring countries via major European highways. From Italy, you can reach Dubrovnik using the E71 and E65 routes. The city is also accessible by road from Slovenia, Montenegro and more.
