How to get to Formentera from Mallorca

The Mallorca - Formentera route is indirect and includes a stopover and ferry change in Ibiza. When traveling with Baleària, you travel from Mallorca to Ibiza on the Eleanor Roosevelt, and then you can continue on the Ibiza - Formentera route with a high-speed catamaran (such as the Nixe) or a conventional ferry (often the Cap de Barbaria).

In Ibiza, passengers need to transfer between Moll Botafoc (Botafoc pier) and Av. Santa Eulària. To make the connection smoother, Baleària offers a shuttle bus service between the 2 terminals.

Where do pets stay?

On Baleària ferries, your pet can stay with you or in the onboard kennels.

The ferries have designated walking areas, however pets are generally not allowed in standard cabins, lounges or dining areas. During the trip, smaller pets must be kept in their carrier, while larger pets must wear a muzzle and be kept on a leash.

Where to take the ferry from Mallorca to Formentera

Ferries to Formentera typically set sail from the Port of Palma de Mallorca, the main passenger port on the southern coast of Mallorca. The port is just outside Palma’s Old Town, roughly 1 km from the city center, and about 10 km from Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI).

At the port, there are basic travel amenities, such as ticket offices and waiting areas, and nearby you will cafés, shops and parking facilities.

How to get to the port of Palma de Mallorca

  • On foot: you can easily reach the port in about 10 - 15 min via the seafront promenade.
  • By car: follow the main Ma-19 highway directly from the airport toward Palma, which leads straight onto Avenida de Gabriel Roca (Paseo Marítimo) and the port.
  • By bus: from Palma Mallorca Airport, you can get to the city center (Sindicat area) with bus line A1 and then continue with local bus lines 1 or 4.
  • By taxi: a taxi ride from the airport to the ferry terminal takes about 10 to 15 min, depending on traffic.

Where does the ferry arrive in Formentera?

Ferries from Palma (typically via Ibiza) arrive at the port of La Savina on the coast of Formentera. La Savina is the main and only commercial ferry port on the island, and all scheduled services dock here. The port is about 3.5 km from Sant Franscesc Xavier, the island's capital.

At the port, you’ll find a maritime terminal area with ticket offices, a taxi stand, and local bus stops, as well as a few shops, cafés, and vehicle rental services right by the port.

How long is the ferry ride from Mallorca to Formentera?
