Where to take the ferry from Naples to Ischia

Ferries to Ischia set sail from the port of Naples, which is located near the city center and Piazza Municipio. You can easily reach the port on foot and public transportation, with Municipio being the nearest metro stop. The port is about 15 km from Capodichino Airport and only 10 min by car or taxi from Napoli Centrale railway station.

The departure point within the port depends on the type of ferry you are traveling with to Ischia:

  • High-speed hydrofoils and catamarans normally depart from Molo Beverello, which is in front of Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino). These are the fastest option to Ischia.
  • Conventional ferries usually leave from Calata Porta di Massa, which is about a 15-min walk or short shuttle ride from Molo Beverello.

It is also possible to travel to Ischia from Pozzuoli, which is a town about 30 min outside of Naples.

How to get to the port of Naples

  • On foot: the terminal is located close to the city center. From Piazza Municipio, Calata Porta di Massa is just a 10-min. walk away.
  • By car: you can reach Naples via the A1 and A3 motorways. Once in the city, follow the signs to the port. There are parking facilities available near the terminal, although spaces can fill up quickly during the summer months.
  • By bus: Naples’ public bus network, operated by ANM, serves the port area with several routes. The most convenient stops are “Piazza Municipio” and “Porto”. You can also take Metro Line 1 to the “Municipio” station, located just a short walk from Molo Beverello.
  • By train: Naples’ main railway station, Napoli Centrale, is about 3 km from the port. You can take Metro Line 1 to Municipio station, which is just a few minutes’ walk from the terminal. Alternatively, a taxi ride from the station takes around 10-15 min.
  • By taxi: taxis are available throughout the city. A ride from Napoli Centrale to the port costs approximately €10-€15 and takes about 10-15 min, depending on traffic.
  • By plane: Naples Capodichino Airport is located about 7 km from the port. The Alibus shuttle service connects the airport directly to the port area in approximately 20-30 min.

Where does the ferry arrive in Ischia?

Ferries from Naples generally dock at 3 ports on Ischia: Ischia Porto, Casamicciola and Forio.

  • Ischia Porto is on the northeast side of the island is Ischia’s main port and the busiest arrival point, with easy access to the town center, beaches, and connections to buses and taxis.
  • Casamicciola Terme, on the northern coast of Ischia, is known for its thermal spas and quieter atmosphere. It is an ideal destination if you plan on staying in Casamicciola or nearby Lacco Ameno.
  • Forio is located on the west side of Ischia and is the second-largest town on the island, with lively nightlife, beaches, and easy access to the Poseidon Thermal Gardens.

All ports in Ischia are well-equipped and nearby you will find cafés, restaurants, shops and other useful amenities, as well as taxis and bus stops to continue your journey.
