Where to take the ferry from Naples to Ischia

The port of Naples is located near the city center (Piazza Municipio) and is easily accessible by public transport. It is about 15km from Capodichino airport and only 10 min from the Naples central railway station.

High-speed boats (hydrofoils) to Ischia leave from the Beverello pier. Conventional ferries (allowing the transfer of vehicles) depart from the Calata Porta di Massa quay. You can easily reach it by taking the free shuttle service from Beverello pier.

Ferry Luggage

Each ferry company has its own baggage allowance policy. Specifically:

  • Medmar allows 1 piece of luggage of 20kg maximum per person free of charge.
  • In Caremar, each passenger can have 1 piece of luggage with a maximum weight of 20kg on a conventional ferry and 10kg on a hydrofoil. The maximum dimensions of the luggage should be 50x40x20cm.
  • In SNAV company, you can take 1 piece of hand luggage with you weighing up to 9kg and with a maximum size of 50x35x20cm with no extra fee.
  • Alilauro allows only carry-on luggage with a weight limit of 9kg and a maximum size of 50x30x20cm at no extra cost.

Ferries from Naples to Ischia do not have cabins, as the journey is very short. Onboard seating is included in the ticket price.

Can I travel on the ferry from Naples to Ischia with a car?

There are only a few ferries from Naples to Ischia that allow the transfer of vehicles. Therefore, if you are not sure whether or not you can transfer your vehicle to Ischia, it is recommended to contact your travel ferry company beforehand.

However, in case you can’t transfer your vehicle to the island, you can explore the beautiful Ischia by taking public transport. The public network is efficient and covers the entire island. Alternatively, you can take a taxi or rent a scooter, boat or bicycle!

From April to October, traffic on Ischia is prohibited for motor vehicles (cars, motorcycles, etc.) for residents of the Campania region. Residents of other italian municipalities, foreigners and permanent residents of the island are free to take their vehicle to Ischia.

For residents of the Campania Region, there are some exceptions. They are allowed to board their vehicle if they plan to stay in Ischia for several days. Specifically, they can transfer their vehicle when they stay for at least 15 days in a private house or 7 days in a hotel in the following municipalities: Serrana Fontana, Barano, Casamicciola Terme and Panza.
