How to get to Piombino

You can reach Piombino from all parts of Italy by car, bus, train, and, of course, by ferry.

Piombino is easily reached by train since it offers two railway stations: Piombino Centrale and Piombino Marittima (it ends in front of the port).

The closest airport to Piombino is Pisa, about 109km away. From here, however, you will have to arrive at Pisa station (which is 2km from the airport) and then continue to Piombino by train or bus.

The port of Piombino can also be reached by ferry from the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago (Elba and Pianosa) as well as the island of Corsica.

  4. Baratti: it is distinguished by its beautiful pine forest. You can reach it from Piombino in less than 15 min. Keep in mind that it is among the most popular areas and it is challenging to find free parking during the summer. There you will also find a bathing establishment with a bar.

Piombino is the main center of the Val di Cornia area. The historic center is pedestrianized so it is perfect for leisurely walks. Most of the stores and businesses are also located here. 

Hotels are difficult to find in the town, but moving north there are several B&Bs and farm houses just outside Piombino, in the direction of San Vincenzo. Other recommended places to stay are Castagneto Carducci, Donoratico, Marina di Castagneto, Bolgheri, Bibbona, Cecina, and Rosignano Marittimo.

Transportation in Piombino

Piombino is a city that is easy to visit on foot. In fact, the distances between the most important attractions in the center, the port and the waterfront are very short. 

If you arrive in town by car, we would recommend finding a parking space. Most parking lots are metered and there are several in the port area.

Port of Piombino

Located on the border between the Ligurian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea, the port of Piombino is one of the main Italian ports. In fact, ferries to Elba Island, Pianosa and Sardinia depart daily from here.

Since it’s only 2km from the city center and the city train station, the port can be easily reached on foot in only 20 min. The port of Piombino can be reached by car, train and bus as well. Regional trains leave from Pisa Centrale station and take about 1 h 15 min to get to Piombino.
