Luggage

Each ferry company serving this route has a different baggage allowance policy. Specifically:

  • With Naviera Armas and Trasmediterranea, you can bring a maximum of 60 kg in luggage or 4 items in total. The company also offers trolleys to transport them.
  • On Fred. Olsen Express ferries, you can carry up to 20 kg of luggage. There are also trolleys to transport your bags and lockers for €1. Keep in mind that you can only have 1 piece of luggage in the lounge in addition to your handbags.

Traveling with pets

You can travel with your pet on all ferries from Tenerife to La Palma ferries, provided you include it in your reservation when making your booking.

Pets are normally allowed in seating areas and on the outside decks. Smaller pets must be kept in a carrier, while larger pets must wear a muzzle and be kept on a leash.

Here are some travel tips for your trip from Tenerife to La Palma:

  • The ports of Los Cristianos and Santa Cruz de Tenerife can get busy, so we recommend arriving at least 45 min before boarding. If you are traveling with a car, it's best to be there 1.5 hr in advance for a smooth boarding.

Where to take the ferry from Tenerife to La Palma

You can take a ferry to Santa Cruz de la Palma from both ports of Tenerife: Los Cristianos in the south and Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the north.

The port of Los Cristianos is on the southern coast of Tenerife, in one of the island’s main tourist areas. From here, you mainly travel to La Palma by high-speed ferry, which is ideal if you want a shorter crossing or you’re staying in the south.

The resort town is about 14 km from Tenerife South Airport and 79 km from Tenerife North Airport. Around the port you’ll find plenty of traveler amenities, such as cafés, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, car-rental offices, hotels and beachside promenades.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island’s capital, is on the northeast coast. From here, you can catch conventional ferries to La Palma, which usually operate once a week, usually on Wednesdays. The port is near the city center and about 15 km from Tenerife North Airport and approximately 60 km from Tenerife South Airport.

The port is just a short walk from downtown Santa Cruz, where you’ll find shops, restaurants, hotels, banks, ATMs, parks, and Intercambiador de Santa Cruz, the main bus and tram hub.

How to get to the ports in Tenerife

You can reach the port of Los Cristianos in about 15-20 min from Tenerife South Airport by taxi or car, or by bus (TITSA line 40) from town. From Tenerife North Airport or Santa Cruz, you can easily reach the port via the TF-1 freeway in about 1-1.5 hr by car or bus.

The port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is just 15-20 min from Tenerife North Airport and around 1 hr from Tenerife South Airport by car. You can also reach the port with the regular bus services from the Santa Cruz Intercambiador. If you are in the city center, the port is within walking distance or a quick taxi ride along the seafront.

Where does the ferry arrive in La Palma?

Ferries from Tenerife normally dock at the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma. The seaside town is located on the east coast of La Palma, about 9 km from La Palma Airport. The port is located very close to the city center (less than 1 km), so you can reach the seafront promenade and main squares on foot.

Around the port area you’ll find cafés, restaurants, shops, supermarkets, hotels, ATMs, banks, pharmacies and car-rental offices, as well as bus stops with services to other parts of the island.

How long is the ferry ride from Tenerife to La Palma?

The duration of the ferry trip from Tenerife to La Palma depends on the port of departure and type of vessel:
