Vacation in Pserimos

Pserimos is one of the smallest islands in the Dodecanese island group and it belongs to the administration of the neighboring Kalymnos. 

It is also called Capari (Capers), inspired by the aromatic plant that grows on the island.

Pserimos has about 30 permanent residents and basic tourist infrastructure for summer visitors. The northern part is called "Akra Vassiliki" and the southern part "Akra Roussa".

How to get to Pserimos

You can get to Pserimos by ferry from Athens, via Kalymnos

At the moment there is no direct ferry from mainland Greece to Pserimos so you have to reach the island from one of the nearby Dodecanese islands.

What to do in Pserimos

The island is ideal for relaxing holidays away from the crowds and the buzz of the city.

Pserimos might be small, but it has several beaches with sand and pebbles or sand, small rocks and crystal clear waters.

The most easily accessible beach is in the port of Avlakia, and it has trees and some umbrellas for shade.

Within 10 to 50 minutes walk from the port of Avlakia you can reach the rest of the beaches of Pserimos. As some are completely isolated, we suggest having an umbrella, water and snacks to spend your day there.

Sightseeing & activities in Pserimos

The main activity in Pserimos is undoubtedly to relax and spend time by the sea.

If you get bored of sunbathing on the beautiful sandy beaches of the island, we suggest you walk on the mapped trails of the island.

During your explorations in Pserimos you will find beautiful small coves for diving and you will enjoy the magnificent view to Kalymnos and the Turkish coasts.

If you like diving, we would recommend checking the seabed on the north and east side of the island, where you can see parts of shipwrecks.

Apart from hiking and diving, you can also organize a boat trip from Pserimos to the nearby islet of Plati.

Plati has beautiful beaches and its waters are considered to be among the clearest in the Dodecanese.

Food in Pserimos

The majority of the restaurants and tavernas on the island are located on the port of Avlakia. 

We recommend tasting the octopus balls in the taverna Pserimos and goat (grilled or stew) in the taverna Manola. Make sure you also stop by Nikolas' bar for a cold beer next to the beach.

Pserimos is a tiny island, with an area of ​​only 15 square kilometers.

It has one main village, Avlakia, which is the port of the island. You can find tavernas, cafes and mini markets, but no pharmacy or a medical clinic.

Also, there is no ATM on the island, so make sure you have cash with you, otherwise you will need to get to Kalymnos or Kos.

In terms of accommodation, you can stay in a room in Avlakia, while some travelers choose to camp in the more secluded parts of the island.

Transportation in Pserimos

In Pserimos you will mainly move around on foot, by sea taxi or by boat, as the island is small and it mainly has dirt roads.

The port of Pserimos is Avlakia, which is also the only village on the island.

Avlakia is located on the west coast of the island and it mainly serves routes from Kalymnos and Kos.

Pserimos ferry: schedules and tickets

At the moment there are no direct ferry routes from mainland Greece to Pserimos.

You can reach the island by ferry boat from Kalymnos or Kos (port of Mastichari) throughout the whole year.

  • Kalymnos - Pserimos: This is the most popular route to Pserimos. Ferries from Kalymnos usually depart around 09:30 in the morning and return at 17:00. The duration of the Kalymnos - Pserimos ferry is about 50 minutes.
  • Kos - Pserimos: Ferries from Kos to Pserimos depart from the port of Mastichari, in the northwest of the island. The journey from Kos takes approximately 35 minutes.
