Where to take the ferry from Tanger to Marseille

Ferries to Marseille depart from Tanger Med, which is Morocco’s main passenger and cargo port, located about 40 km east of Tangier.

At the passenger terminal, you’ll find check-in counters, waiting areas, as well as cafés, snack bars, currency exchange, ATMs and parking areas for short stays and long-term parking.

How to get to Tanger Med port

The most convenient way to reach Tanger Med is by car or taxi via the A4 freeway. The drive from the city center of Tangier or the train station usually takes 45 min to 1 hr, depending on traffic.

There are also intercity and shuttle bus services connecting Tangier with Tanger Med, which you can typically get at the main bus station in the town and the Tangier Ville area. The bus ride normally takes 1.5-2 hr. Keep in mind that bus services are limited outside of the high season.

Where does the ferry arrive in Marseille?

Ferries from Tanger normally dock at the Grand Port Maritime de Marseille, one of France’s main passenger ports. The ferry terminal is just north of downtown Marseille, around 5 km from the Old Port (Vieux-Port).

You can easily get to the city center in about 15-20 min, depending on traffic. The port has direct road access to the A55 highway, and it is also connected to public transportation, making it easy to continue your journey by car, taxi, bus, or metro.

Around the port of Marseille, you’ll find cafés, restaurants, shops and hotels within easy reach, especially as you get closer to the city center. You will also find taxi stands, parking areas and other basic traveler services.
