Ferry companies traveling to and from Izmir offer discounts for specific passenger categories, including:

Ferries connecting Izmir (Dikili and Alsancak) and the port of Mytilene in Lesbos operate from May until September, with the highest demand in the summer months (June to September). If you plan to travel during this period, it is a good idea to book your tickets 1-2 months in advance. During late spring and early autumn, tickets are generally available even if you book a few days before departure.

Izmir is a city that blends the best of modern Turkey with a deep sense of history. Known as the "Pearl of the Aegean," the third biggest city in Turkey is home to beautiful seafront promenades, ancient ruins, and vibrant markets, all draped in a cosmopolitan atmosphere. The city’s famous landmarks include the Clock Tower in Konak Square, the bustling Kemeralti Bazaar, and the historic Agora of Smyrna.

For those interested in history, nearby attractions like Ephesus, Pergamon, and the ancient city of Teos are just a short trip away. Izmir’s coastal location also makes it a great base for day trips to surrounding beaches, with the most famous of them on the Cesme peninsula, a vacation and windsurfing hot spot. Last but not least, Izmir nightlife is extremely diverse and caters to every taste, from laid-back bars to rock pubs.

Here are some useful tips for your ferry trip to Izmir and your stay: 

• All passengers on ferry routes to Izmir should carry a valid passport or ID. 
• The local currency is the Turkish lira. While cards are widely accepted, we advise you to carry some cash for smaller purchases and local markets to secure better deals. In some places you might even be able to pay with euros, but if you need to convert your money to the local currency, you will find many currency exchange services in the city. 
• The port of Mytilene can be very busy, especially during the summer, so make sure to be there at least 45 minutes before departure.
• Public transport in Izmir includes bus, metro, tram, and commuter rail services. Buses serve all districts of the city. If you want to explore Izmir and its surrounding areas at your leisure, you can also rent a car or a scooter once you arrive.

Ferries connecting Izmir to Samos to Mytilene (Lesbos) are high-speed catamarans. Due to the typically short duration of the trip, no cabins are available. Deck-lounge seats are available for booking, while snack bars on board provide a quick bite during your trip. 

Unfortunately, pets are not allowed on board ferries to Izmir.

The main port of Izmir, also known as the Port of Alsancak, is located at the head of Izmir Bay, about a 20-25 minute drive from the center of Izmir and around 1 hour 20 minutes by public transport (tram and buses 33 or 35).

The Port of Dikili is a small yet important gateway on Turkey’s northern Aegean coast, located about 120km north of Izmir. The port area is known for its relaxed atmosphere, seaside cafés, and easy access to the town’s picturesque waterfront. Dikili is also a convenient starting point for exploring the ancient city of Pergamon, one of Turkey’s most significant archaeological sites.

Both ports connect Izmir with the port of Mytilene on the Greek island of Lesbos.
