Ferry from La Gomera to Tenerife

When traveling by ferry from La Gomera to Tenerife, you can take advantage of the regular discounts of up to 50% offered to specific traveler categories! While these discounts differ from one company to another, you can usually expect lower ferry ticket prices for:

• Children (aged 4-11)
• Young travelers (under 26)
• Seniors (over 60s)
• Large families (Spanish citizens)

Additionally, residents of the Canary Islands are also entitled to discounts of up to 75% on regular ticket rates.

Note: infants and toddlers up to 3 years old normally travel free of charge.

The La Gomera - Tenerife route is served by high-speed, vehicle-carrying ferries operated by Fred. Olsen Express and Baleària.

Fred. Olsen Express normally uses the Benchijigua Express and Bencomo Express, while Baleària normally operates the Pepita Castellví and Volcán de Tirajana. Onboard facilities include:

Cabins and accommodation

Due to the short duration of the trip, ferries from La Gomera to Tenerife do not have cabins. Standard seating is included in the ticket.  On Fred. Olsen Express ferries, passengers with an eligible Priority or Oro fare can use the Clase Oro premium lounge, which offers:

• Priority boarding and disembarkation, depending on the fare

On Baleària’s Pepita Castellví ferry, there are also Exclusive lounges with upgraded seating. VIP lounge seats normally start at around €50.

Luggage

Each ferry company serving the La Gomera - Tenerife ferry route has its own baggage policy:

• With Fred. Olsen, you can carry up to 20 kg of luggage free of charge. Luggage trolleys are available at the port for €1. Your bags are loaded onto the ferry and collected after arrival.
• With Baleària, you can bring the personal luggage you are able to carry yourself, without assistance and in one movement. Luggage does not need to be checked in and can be stored in the racks inside the passenger lounges. Bulky or special equipment should be declared when booking.

Accessibility 

Ferries on the La Gomera - Tenerife route generally have accessible facilities, such as adapted seating and toilets, wheelchair anchor points, and ramps or elevators. Available facilities differ by vessel.

Passengers should request assistance when booking, preferably at least 48 hr before departure.

Traveling with pets

Pets are allowed on all ferries to La Gomera from Tenerife, provided you include them in your booking.  Fred. Olsen Express offers 3 pet-accommodation options:

• Pet Carrier: for pets weighing up to 10 kg. You must bring your own carrier, which remains on the lounge floor beside your seat.
• Pet Sofa: the pet stays on a supplied mat beside your seat in a designated pet-friendly area.
• Pet Room: a shaded, ventilated outdoor kennel with a monitoring camera.

With Baleària, available options may include:

• Pet&You or Pet&You XL accommodation beside the passenger
• Pet-friendly seating for small animals in carriers
• Dedicated ventilated kennels

Pet accommodation must be booked in advance and is subject to availability. Animals outside carriers must remain secured on a lead, and a muzzle is required where legally applicable.

Here are some useful tips for your ferry La Gomera - Tenerife trip:

• San Sebastián, the main port of La Gomera, can get quite busy during the summer, so it’s best to be there 45 min ahead of your departure. If you are traveling with a vehicle, we recommend arriving at least 1.5 hr before boarding.
• If you are headed to Tenerife on a day trip, make sure you book your return ticket on the Tenerife - La Gomera ferry in advance.
• Keep in mind that schedules can be affected by weather and sea conditions. Strong winds may cause delays or cancellations, especially in winter. Always check with your ferry operator on the day of travel for the latest updates.

Where to take the ferry from La Gomera to Tenerife

Ferries to Tenerife usually depart from the port of San Sebastián de La Gomera, which is on the eastern side of La Gomera. The port town is also the island capital and serves most of the ferry routes to other destinations.

The port is a short walk from the center of San Sebastián and nearby you will find cafés, restaurants, bars and shops, as well as ATMs, hotels, and parking lots. Bus lines 1, 2 and 3 also connect the ferry terminal with other parts of La Gomera. 

If you are staying in Playa Santiago or Valle Gran Rey, you can reach San Sebastián on Fred. Olsen Express’s coastal ferry service. The full Valle Gran Rey - San Sebastián crossing takes around 1 hr 10 min and includes a stop in Playa Santiago. These ports do not currently offer direct ferries to Tenerife. 

Where does the ferry arrive in Tenerife?

Ferries from La Gomera normally arrive at the port of Los Cristianos, a port town on the southwest side of Tenerife. The port is within walking distance of the center of Los Cristianos, where you can find restaurants, cafés, shops, hotels, ATMs, tour operators, and car-rental agencies.

A taxi rank is available at the port, while the main Los Cristianos bus station is about a 15-min walk from the ferry terminal. TITSA bus line 40 connects Los Cristianos with Tenerife South Airport.

Los Cristianos is around 75 km from Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Fred. Olsen Express passengers traveling without a vehicle can add the company’s free Ferry Bus between Los Cristianos and Santa Cruz to eligible bookings. The bus journey takes approximately 1 hr.
