Where to take the ferry from Lavrio to Kea

Ferries to Kea normally set sail from the port of Lavrio, which is about 60 km from the center of Athens and about 35 km from Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos. Typically, ferries bound for the island of Kea leave from the main passenger piers situated on the eastern side of the port.

The port is next to Lavrio town, so you can find plenty of cafés, restaurants, shops, banks and kiosks within walking distance. There are both paid and free public parking lots available near the passenger terminal loops.  The KTEL bus terminal is in the town center, about a 20-min walk from the ferry piers.

  • By car: from the center of Athens, you can reach Lavrio via the Attiki Odos motorways (A6 and A61) heading south in about 1-1.5 hr, or by taking the scenic coastal route along Poseidonos Avenue and the Athens-Sounio Road. From the airport, you can reach the port of Lavrio in around 35 to 40 min.
  • By bus from Athens Airport: the regional bus network, KTEL Attikis, runs an hourly route from the airport arrivals level to Markopoulo, where you will switch to a direct bus down to Lavrio. The combined travel time is about 1 hr.  
  • By bus from central Athens: regular KTEL Attikis buses depart frequently from the Pedion tou Areos station or near the Nomismatokopio metro station (Line 3) and reach Lavrio in 1.5 to 2 hr, depending on traffic.  
  • By taxi: a taxi ride from Athens Airport takes around 35 to 40 min, whereas a ride from central Athens takes about 1 hr

Ferries from Lavrio arrive at the main port of Kea (Tzia), in Korissia, also known as Livadi. Korissia sits inside the natural bay of Agios Nikolaos, on the northwestern side of Kea. The port of Korissia is about 6 km from Ioulida (Chora), the island capital.

The port area is within Korissia itself, so you’ll find cafés, restaurants, shops, bakeries, supermarkets, tourist accommodation and car-rental options close by.
