• On Sundays, you change ferries in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The first crossing, from Las Palmas to Tenerife, takes around 1 hr 40 min aboard the high-speed Volcán de Taidía. You then continue to Cádiz on the Volcán de Tinamar, with a crossing of around 33 hr.

Can I sleep on the Las Palmas - Cádiz ferry?

Yes. The Volcán de Tinamar, which operates the long crossing to Cádiz, has cabins where you can rest during the journey. Depending on availability, you can book a cabin for 1-4 passengers. Typically, you have the option between interior cabins, exterior cabins (with a sea view), deluxe cabins (with sea view and double bed), and pet-friendly cabins.

Prices for cabins start from about €450, but the fare depends on your departure and the accommodation you select.

What seats can I book?

Baleària offers standard numbered seats in the Sirena lounge and VIP seats in the Neptuno lounge. These airplane-style seats generally have extra space and often include priority boarding and access to an exclusive area on board. 

If you travel via Tenerife on a Sunday, you’ll first take a high-speed catamaran to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with a VIP seat automatically assigned for this part of the journey.

Prices for VIP seats start from about €130.

How much luggage is allowed on the ferries?

On Baleària ferries from mainland Spain to the Canary Islands, you can bring as many bags as you can carry on board yourself, free of charge. The ferries have a dedicated luggage storage area, however it may not be accessible during the trip, so keep a bag with personal items with you. If you are traveling with a car or camper van, you can store your items in your vehicle.

The ferries from Las Palmas to Cádiz are generally accessible to passengers with disabilities, featuring ramps connecting the vehicle and passenger decks, as well as adapted seating, cabins and toilets.

Here are some useful tips for your ferry trip from Gran Canaria to Cádiz:

• The port in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria can get busy, especially in the summer, so it’s best to be there 45 min in advance. If you are traveling with a vehicle, it’s highly recommended to be at the port 1.5 hr ahead of departure for a smooth boarding process.
• The sea can get a bit choppy, so if you are sensitive to the waves, consider taking seasickness medication before the trip. As always, your pharmacist or doctor can help you pick the right one.

Where to take the ferry from Gran Canaria to Cádiz

Ferries to Cádiz normally set sail from the Nelson Mandela pier at the port of Las Palmas in Gran Canaria. You can easily get to the port from downtown Las Palmas with several bus routes that connect the port to different city areas.

The port is about 6 km from the city center and 30 km from the Gran Canaria Airport. To get to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from the airport, you can take buses L60, L1, L91, or L11.

How to get to the port of Las Palmas

• By ferry bus: Baleària operates a free Ferry Bus between the Fundación Puerto de Las Palmas office and the port. For departing ferries, buses run from around 1.5 hr to 45 min before departure, although the service may be restricted on certain sailings. Check availability before traveling.
• By car: from the airport and southern Gran Canaria, follow the GC-1 toward Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, then signs for Puerto/La Esfinge and Muelle Nelson Mandela. If you're taking your vehicle on the ferry, follow the signs for vehicle check-in rather than passenger drop-off and allow extra time for boarding.
• From Gran Canaria Airport: take Global bus 60 or 91 to the Santa Catalina bus interchange. The trip takes around 30 min, and services generally run twice an hour during the main part of the day. From Santa Catalina, continue to the ferry terminal by Ferry Bus or taxi.
• By city bus: Guaguas Municipales line 19 connects Manuel Becerra with the port's industrial and ferry area.
• By taxi: taxis are widely available in Las Palmas, with a ride from the Santa Catalina/Las Canteras area to the port usually takin around 10-15 min.

Where does the ferry arrive in Cádiz?

Ferries from Gran Canaria normally dock at the port of Cádiz in Andalusia, in the northeast part of the city. The port of Cádiz is within walking distance of the city center and about 40 km south of the Jerez Airport, which can be reached in about 30 min by car or 1 hr using public transport.
