1. Stargazing in Tenerife

Are you looking for a place that has it all? The island of Tenerife will offer you the perfect romantic getaway! Gazing at the stars might sound a bit cheesy, but this is different! Why? Because you can take a long look at 83 out of the 88 constellations officially recognized in the world.

So, yes! Teide Observatory in Tenerife is the real deal. You can drive up to the peak at 2,390 meters height by car and see the dazzling constellations standing out in the sky. Get into the observatory and see the magnificent view through the telescope.

You will probably see the main star of the Scorpius, Antares, shining brightly or the constellation of Sagittarius in the shape of a teapot. We guess love is indeed written in the stars, isn’t it?

Tip: keep in mind that the bright light of the full (or almost full) moon affects the visibility of the constellations.

How to get there: if you're traveling by ferry from the Spanish mainland, you can take the ferry from Cádiz to Tenerife. However, the island of Tenerife is also well connected to the other Canary Islands by sea. Therefore, you can take the Gran Canaria-Tenerife ferry route and reach the largest island of the Canaries in less than 2 hours.

2. Sandboarding in Gran Canaria

For some people romanticism equals buying flowers, writing a heartfelt letter, or watching the shooting stars. For others, romance interrelates with adventure! If you fall into the second category, Gran Canaria is THE place to be with your partner.

Prepare a nice breakfast for your sweetheart and tuck into scrambled eggs, chocolate banana muffins, and the good old-fashioned pancakes with maple syrup! One last sip of your freshly made orange juice and off you go to the Maspalomas Dunes

You will drive down to the sand dunes for about 45 minutes from Las Palmas, the capital of Gran Canaria. The vast area, covered in golden sand, looks exactly like the wallpaper from Windows 8 that you had on your computer screen back then.

The only difference is that instead of being in front of a screen, you are now on the sand dunes with your significant other, ready to have some fun!

Go sandboarding, feel the adrenaline peak and enjoy the breeze while taking the first fall. Ride your boards, tame the sand dunes, and enjoy the sunset from the awe-inspiring landscape there. Then, head to the Maspalomas beach to relax under the palm trees and enjoy the sunset.

Before you leave, make sure to visit the Maspalomas Lighthouse, an active 19th-century lighthouse and the tallest one in the Canaries (56 meters in height), located very close to the homonymous beach.

How to get there: you can take the ferry from Cádiz to Gran Canaria or the Tenerife-Gran Canaria ferry.

3. Volcanic tunnel tour in Lanzarote

Are you craving explosive flavors? Take your partner to a romantic dinner in the volcanic restaurant of Jameos del Agua in Lanzarote. Enjoy a visit to the volcanic caves created by the eruption of the Corona Volcano and admire the impressive artwork of César Manrique.

The volcanic tunnel is a great example of harmony between art and nature! It was formed from basalt stone and it was transformed into a natural auditorium where many music concerts are held. Inside the Jameos del Agua caves, you can dine with your partner or enjoy a cocktail.

The setting of wooden tables, palm trees, and lava floors combined with live music concerts is stunning. The charming combination of nature and art with dimmed lights and flowers turns the caves into the most romantic setting for two. Cheers!

How to get there: if you go island hopping in the Canary Islands, you can take the ferry to Lanzarote from Fuerteventura and spend the whole day on the volcanic island with your significant other!

4. Wine tasting in Fuerteventura

Apart from visiting places as remarkable as Popcorn Beach and hiking to the top of the Calderón Hondo Volcano, in Fuerteventura, you will find the oldest vineyard in the Canary archipelago from 1412. You know what that means, right? It’s wine time!

Take your significant other and head towards the Winery “Bodega Conatus”, the only remaining ancestral vineyard in Fuerteventura, and taste ancient wine varieties such as “La Majorera”.

The Bodega’s name, Conatus, is Latin and means "effort". That is because it takes a lot of effort to cultivate vines on an island with dry land and water shortage. Take the tour and learn the secrets of winegrowing on sand (jable) and ravines of volcanoes, and enjoy the tasting experience of local wine!

Tip: if you have some extra time available, you can also take the ferry and enjoy a romantic day trip to Los Lobos island from Fuerteventura.

How to get there: you can reach the surfer's island by plane or ferry. Read our complete guide on how to get to Fuerteventura on Ferryhopper.

5. Hiking and forest picnic in La Gomera

Do you wish to carve time for each other? Spend a day with your sweetheart in a fairytale-like landscape. Rent a car in San Sebastián, the capital of La Gomera, and drive up to the Garajonay National Park.

Take the hiking route that passes through the Enchanted Forest, the ancient laurel forest, and find a clearing for a magical forest picnic!

All you need is love aaand food, a blanket, some water, and a couple of napkins to set the perfect picnic. Then, wander around the hiking trail and enjoy nature surrounded by running springs and lush vegetation.

Before hitting the road back, you can also visit the mountainous village of El Cercado near the National Park. In the highlands of La Gomera, lies the picturesque village dotted with palm trees and old stone houses decorated with tiles.

There, you can find handmade pottery made by locals using pre-Hispanic ancestral techniques and buy a few pots as a souvenir from your couples vacation in the Canary Islands.

How to get there: you can take the ferry from Gran Canaria, Tenerife, and El Hierro to reach the pristine island of La Gomera. For more information on how to get to La Gomera, read our guide on Ferryhopper!
