Companies operating the routes to and from Isla Mujeres often offer special discounts for different types of travelers. While policies may vary by company, children under 1 or 5 years old usually travel for free, and those up to 11 years old typically enjoy reduced fares. In addition, residents of Quintana Roo are eligible for special local rates.

There are plenty of ferry departures to Isla Mujeres (every half hour), with 4 different ports in Cancún you can sail from. However, if you already know your travel dates and have a preferred time for departure and return, it’s a good idea to book your tickets a few days in advance to secure your spot on board.

If you're traveling over a weekend, on a busy holiday, or with a large group, try to book a few weeks ahead to avoid any last-minute hassle.

If you look up the word “paradise” in the dictionary, don’t be surprised if you find a picture of Isla Mujeres. Mayan women used to come here to worship Ixchel, the goddess of the moon, love, and fertility - which is where the island gets its name (Island of Women).

Playa Norte is a must-see spot, with its soft white sand, calm turquoise waters, and lots of beach bars, restaurants and plenty of options for relaxing or having fun. Other beautiful beaches worth visiting include Playa Lancheros and Playa Garrafón, perfect for swimming and snorkeling.

At the southern tip of the island, Punta Sur combines nature, art, and history. Here, you’ll find a sculpture park with 23 artworks, stunning views of the Caribbean, and the ruins of a small temple dedicated to the goddess Ixchel.

Here are some useful tips to make the most of your stay in Isla Mujeres (and your ferry trip from Cancún):

• We recommend arriving at your port of departure in Cancún at least 30-45 minutes before departure, as they tend to get quite busy.
• The town center is compact and you can easily get around on foot, but if you want to explore other places, renting a golf cart (the island’s most iconic way to get around) is a fun and popular option!
• The boats traveling to Isla Mujeres from the port of Cancún (and the other way around) usually have an open deck. If you decide to sail outside, don't forget to bring a hat, eco-friendly sunscreen and sunglasses.
• If you're staying overnight on Isla Mujeres, make sure to set your alarm and try to catch the sunrise at Punta Sur. It's the first place in Mexico to see the sun come up!
• If you’re after authentic flavors at affordable prices, skip the resorts and head to the loncherías (local restaurants) near the Playa Norte food market. You’ll find homemade enchiladas, burritos, fresh fish and other Mexican favorites.

Ferries to Isla Mujeres are designed with comfort and enjoyment in mind. Inside, you’ll find comfortable seats and charging stations to keep your devices powered throughout the journey. There are also dedicated spaces for passengers with reduced mobility.

Pets are welcome on board at no extra cost. There's no need for a carrier—just keep them on a leash and stay with them in the designated pet-friendly areas.

And to make the short crossing even more enjoyable, there’s a snack bar on board where you can grab a drink or a bite to eat. On some departures, live music adds to the festive atmosphere, giving you a taste of island life before you even arrive.

Ferries arrive at the Terminal Marítima de Isla Mujeres, located on the island’s northwest coast. Around the port, you’ll find all the essentials for travelers: restaurants, shops, and golf cart rental services to help you get around the island with ease.

Just a 10-minute walk from the terminal is Playa Norte, one of the most stunning beaches in the Mexican Caribbean. With calm waters, a postcard-perfect setting, and plenty of beach clubs to choose from, it’s the perfect place to start your adventure on the island.
