Tips for camping in Croatia

  1. Check regulations: make sure you know what's allowed and what's not in Croatia. Some places might have restrictions or you'll need to get a permit.
  2. Seasonality: the summer months (June to August) are the most popular for camping. However, for fewer crowds and milder weather, it is best to visit in the spring and fall.
  3. Reservations: popular campsites can become crowded during peak season. To ensure a spot, make reservations in advance.
  4. Wild camping: if you're planning a trip to Croatia, it's best to stick to designated campsites rather than camping in the wild, especially if you're visiting a tourist destination such as a national park or a beach. This way, you won't have to worry about any legal issues.
  5. Pack essentials: pack necessary camping equipment, such as a good tent, sleeping bag, camping stove, and other necessities. Check the weather forecast before packing.
  6. Insect repellent: coastal areas might have mosquitoes (even in September or October), so make sure you have your bug spray on!
  7. Camping gas: it is recommended to bring a camping gas stove as open fires are generally prohibited between June the 1st and October the 31st of each year (except in designated areas).
  8. Waste disposal: follow the principles of "Leave No Trace". Respect the environment and properly dispose of waste.
  9. Camping cost: the average daily camping cost is between 20€ and 60€, but prices may vary depending on the campsite.
  10. Speed limits: if you are traveling through Croatia by camper, it is good to know that the speed limit in the city is 50 km/h, 90 km/h outside the city and 130 km/h on the highway.
