Where to take the ferry from Algeciras to Tanger Med

Ferries to Tanger Med normally depart from the port of Algeciras, one of the busiest passenger and cargo hubs in southern Spain. The port is within walking distance of the city center and only a few minutes by car or taxi from the main train and bus stations in Algeciras.

If you’re driving, the port has easy access from the A-7, and there are a few parking lots nearby. The train and bus stations are about 1 km away, so you can get from there to the port in 10-15 min on foot, or with a short taxi ride if you have luggage.

Near the port, you will find cafés, restaurants and tapas bars, as well as shops, pharmacies, hotels, car rental agencies and parking lots.

Where does the ferry arrive in Tanger Med?

The ferry from Algeciras usually docks at Tanger Med, a large modern port about 40 km east of Tangier and the old port. In and around the port, you will find cafés and small shops, ATMs and car rental agencies. There are also shuttle buses and taxis to take you to Tangier city or other destinations.

By car or taxi, it takes around 45 min to 1 hr to reach Tangier via the A4 highway. Buses can take a bit longer, depending on the stops along the way. You can also hop on the train at Tanger Med which takes roughly 1 hr for Tangier Ville.
