How to prepare for your next ferry ride

Your upcoming ferry trip in Greece is fast approaching! Have a look at useful ferry travel tips and get ready to spend a perfect escape at your favorite destination.

Useful tips for your ferry trip in Greece

We have created a list of useful ferry travel tips for a hassle-free and comfortable ferry ride:

1. Travel documents

We recommend downloading all necessary boarding documents on your phone or tablet in advance. The majority of ferry companies currently offer e-tickets, which makes boarding faster. We know how stressful it can be to look for your ticket while waiting in line or to lose internet connection just when you are about to board. You can check in online and get your e-ticket on the Ferryhopper App.

2. Food during the ferry ride

Consider preparing your own homemade snacks for the crossing. Make something that is easily stored in your bag or suitcase and won’t spill or stain other items. We also suggest avoiding chocolate and anything that might melt in the heat. Sharing is caring, so why not bring something extra for your friends? Also, carrying cold water is always a good idea! If you're into that, you can find bars and cafes at the vast majority of ferries.

3. Spending time on the ferry

Ferry trips can be long, so bring playing cards, table games and books. When Instagram scrolling comes to an end and you have already explored every corner of the ferry, you need something to pass the time. Here are some ideas on what to do on board. Bear in mind it can get extra windy on the deck, so make sure you have something to hold cards on the table and book pages in place.

4. Ferry travel and Wi-Fi

Are you planning to watch your favorite series or a movie during the trip? That’s a great idea, but we suggest downloading them on your tablet or laptop in advance. Being proactive is important, as connecting to the ferry Wi-Fi (if available at all) or using your mobile data in the middle of the sea might be challenging or impossible. In addition, although most ferries have some power sockets, we recommend bringing a power bank, as there might not be any plugs available when you need them.

5. Clothing for your ferry trip

If you think that traveling by ferry in the summer means feeling hot, you might want to reconsider. We recommend packing a hoodie or even a sleeping bag to keep warm either on the windy deck or in the heavily air-conditioned indoor spaces. It can sometimes be colder indoors than on the ferry deck, so, especially for longer journeys, make sure that you bring the necessary gear to stay warm and comfortable throughout the trip.

6. Greek ferry travel and latest Covid-19 measures

You can freely get around the Greek islands with no need to present any Covid-19 documents. For up-to-date information, have a look at the latest ferry coronavirus updates and remember to bring a mask for indoor ferry spaces.

Extra tip: now, you can track your ferry live on the Ferryhopper App! Simply retrieve your booking on the app and see the location of your ferry in real time on the day of traveling!
