Wed, 3 June 2026

Athens, June 3, 2026: Ferryhopper, the leading ferry booking platform in the Mediterranean, has released its booking data, revealing the key travel trends of the first major long weekend of this year’s summer season.

More specifically, the 10 most popular islands for the 2026 Holy Spirit long weekend were:

  • Aegina
  • Tinos
  • Mykonos
  • Kea
  • Andros
  • Agistri
  • Kythnos
  • Paros
  • Syros
  • Corfu

The Destination of the Long Weekend

Once again, Aegina ranked at the top of travelers’ preferences for the Holy Spirit long weekend, confirming the strong appeal of nearby island destinations for short getaways. Easy accessibility and short travel duration continue to be key decision-making factors for many travelers.

At the same time, the Cyclades were overall the stars of this year’s long weekend, with destinations such as Tinos, Mykonos, Kea and Andros attracting particularly strong traveler interest. From short nearby escapes to more cosmopolitan island experiences, the Cycladic element clearly dominated travelers’ choices this season.

Last-Minute or Well-Planned?

Although this year recorded a noticeable increase in travelers organizing their Holy Spirit getaways earlier, the trend of last-minute bookings remained particularly strong. According to Ferryhopper data, 32% of bookings were made just 0–2 days before departure, while at the same time approximately 41% of travelers appear to have planned their getaway at least 45 days in advance.

The findings highlight two distinct travel behaviors: those who carefully organize their trips well ahead of time and those who prefer more spontaneous, last-minute escapes.

Travel Preferences by Generation

Millennials appeared to dominate this year’s Holy Spirit holiday travel, leading bookings across several of the most popular island destinations. Aegina, Tinos, Mykonos and Paros ranked among their top choices.

Gen Z travelers mainly favored nearby and easily accessible island destinations for this year’s long weekend. Aegina, Agistri, Hydra and Poros were among the younger generation’s preferred destinations, while they also showed a particularly strong presence in Mykonos, confirming Gen Z’s preference for both short getaways and more cosmopolitan summer escapes.

Boomers primarily traveled to nearby and more traditional island destinations, with Aegina and Tinos attracting the highest interest. Kea, Andros and Syros also ranked high among their preferences.
