Ferry strike announced in Greece for the 13th of September 2023

Ferries will remain docked for 24 hours

The Greek Seafarers' Unions announced a 24-hour strike on the 13th of September 2023 for all the ferries departing from the Greek ports.

The strike will last from 00:01 on Wednesday until 23:59 on the same day.

How is my ferry trip affected by the strike?

During the strike, ferry schedules will either be canceled or postponed to a different day/time. Usually, ferry routes that are affected by the strike are operated after the end of the strike.

The strike applies to all types of ferries. The routes that are expected to be affected are from/to all the Greek ports.

If you have already planned a ferry trip to the Greek islands for those days, we suggest finding alternatives and traveling on the following days.

The final decisions about which ferry schedules will be canceled, which will be changed, and which will operate normally are usually announced by the ferry companies in the days preceding the strike.

When will the strike end?

The 24-hour strike will end on the 13th of September 2023 at 23:59. From the next day on, ferry crossings will be operated normally, unless there are new updates that you will recieve via email.

What happens with ferry tickets in the case of a strike?

The Ferryhopper Team informs travelers whose trips have been canceled via email, following official updates by the ferry operators.

In this email, you will find information about changes in ferry schedules and available alternatives. Our goal is to inform all travelers in time so that they find ferry travel alternatives and avoid missing their trip.

Here are some tips by Ferryhopper on what to do with your ferry tickets in case of a strike:

  1. Avoid collecting your paper coupons until the day of departure. Even though you might be eligible for a 100% refund, if you have already printed the coupons, you should return them to the agency that originally issued the tickets in order for the compensation process to be activated.
  2. In case of a strike, you should consider slightly modifying your travel arrangements, if you can. We would recommend searching for ferry alternatives on the days before the strike, as, normally, the routes on the days after the strike are also affected. If you wish to reschedule, make sure you do it as soon as possible as availability may be limited.
  3. If you are already on an island during the day(s) of the strike, we recommend that you get in touch with the local travel agents for updates regarding the status of the schedules and routes.
