Ferry from Gran Canaria to La Palma

For your trip from Gran Canaria to La Palma, you can take advantage of regular discounts for cheaper ferry tickets. While these discounts differ from one company to another, the ferry companies usually offer lower ticket prices to certain passenger categories, such as:

• Children (aged 4-11)
• Young travelers (under 26)
• Seniors (60+)
• Large families (Spanish citizens)

While there is no direct ferry from Gran Canaria to La Palma, it is possible to travel there with a stop in Tenerife.

The most straightforward way is to hop on the Gran Canaria - Tenerife ferry in either Agaete or Las Palmas. Once you reach the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, you can board the Tenerife - La Palma ferry to reach your destination.

Alternatively, you can also catch the ferry from Gran Canaria to Tenerife, as before, and then travel from the port to Los Cristianos, on the southern end of Tenerife. The distance between the ports is about 75 km and the journey by car or bus usually takes just under 1 hr. From there, you can hop on a catamaran from Los Cristianos to La Palma.

The ferries serving the Gran Canaria - La Palma route via Tenerife are equipped with modern amenities for a comfortable and relaxed journey. On most ferries, you will find seating in air-conditioned lounges and outside on deck, bars for snacks and drinks, pet-friendly areas, and amenities for travelers with disabilities.

Additionally, on some ferries there may also be restaurants, where you can enjoy a meal, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot to stay connected during your journey.

Cabins and accommodation

Due to the short length of the trip from Gran Canaria to Tenerife, you cannot book a cabin on the first leg of your journey.

You can, however, book a cabin on the conventional ferries running from Tenerife to La Palma. Typically, there are cabins for 1-4 passengers, which have a sea view. Cabin prices normally start at around €160.

Alternatively, on most ferries serving both legs of the trip, you can book an airplane-type seat or a spot in the VIP lounge for a more comfortable trip.

Luggage

Each ferry company serving the routes from Gran Canaria to Palma has its own luggage policy:

• On Fred Olsen ferries, you are allowed up to 20 kg of luggage, free of charge.
• When traveling with Naviera Armas or Trasmediterranea, you are entitled to up to 4 bags with a total weight of 60 kg, for free.

Traveling with pets

Pets are allowed on ferries from Gran Canaria to La Palma, provided you include it in your booking. Depending on the ferry company, you may have the option of bringing your four-legged pet with you in a carrier or on a lead, as well as booking a spot in the onboard kennels or a pet-friendly cabin.

Here are some useful tips for your ferry trip from Gran Canaria to La Palma:

• The ports in Gran Canaria are some of the busiest in the region. We suggest arriving at the port at least 1.5 hr before departure, especially if you’re traveling with a vehicle.
• The sea can get a bit rough, so if you are prone to seasickness, consider taking motion sickness medication before the journey. As always, you can discuss your options with your pharmacist or doctor.

Where to take the ferry from Gran Canaria to La Palma

Ferries to La Palma via Tenerife depart from the ports of Las Palmas and Agaete in Gran Canaria.

• The port of Las Palmas is about 5 km from the center of the city of Las Palmas. There are several bus routes that connect the port to different city areas.
• The port of Agaete is located approximately 33 km from Las Palmas. Bus route 103 runs regularly from the capital to Agaete.

Where does the ferry arrive in La Palma?

Ferries from Gran Canaria via Tenerife normally dock at the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma. The seaside town is located on the east coast of La Palma, about 9 km from La Palma Airport.
