Ferry Tickets Types, Discounts & Offers

On this page, you'll find all the necessary information about the different types of ferry ticket offers and discounts and how to use them.

On Ferryhopper we support the most discounts available online for ferry crossings. If you think that a discount that you are eligible for is not available on our website, please let us know and we will be happy to check.

Ferry companies, generally, provide discounts for certain types of passengers, such as residents, infants, children, students, and youths. Please note that if you purchase a discounted ticket, you will have to provide the relevant document confirming that you are eligible for the specific discount to board the ferry (e.g. student card, proof of residence, etc.). It is worth noting that for some companies the aforementioned discounts do not apply to all types of seats. For example, according to Seajets policy, the student discount does not apply to Business or VIP seats. Sometimes ferry companies make special offers on tickets for specific dates or destinations. These special offers are immediately available on Ferryhopper.

Furthermore, there are some discounts that are available only for Greek residents and for specific types of passengers: NAT pensioners, war invalids, permanent residents of islands (MAN), and multi-child families. In these cases, you will also need to bring the necessary proof (multi-child family card, unemployment card, etc.). There is also an "Unemployed" discount, which is available only for domestic routes with Minoan Lines and it applies to passengers at the age of 18-59.

Please note that tickets on offer are usually non-refundable. This means that if you book a ticket as part of a special offer, you probably won’t be able to get a refund in case you wish to cancel it. Some companies, however, may allow you to change the date of your ticket or convert it to an open ticket. In this case, you’ll most likely have to pay the difference between the standard ticket price and the price of the ticket you purchased on a special offer.

Last but not least, please keep in mind that some special offers cannot be combined with other discounts.

Ferry companies offer various discounts for passengers that belong to specific age groups. Some of the most common ones are the following:

  • Infant and child discounts: every company has its own definition for infants and children and offers different discounts. Please note that discounts for infants and children usually apply only to certain fare types, e.g. to economy class, but not to VIP / business class or cabins. Infants for whom a zero-value ticket is issued usually travel on an adult’s lap and are not assigned a separate seat. Children normally get a 25% or 50% discount on the standard ticket price. In order to be able to select an infant or child fare when booking your tickets, you will have to add an adult passenger first and then the infant / child.
  • Discounts for young people: many companies offer discounts for passengers under 26 years of age. Please remember that this discount usually applies only to certain types of seats, e.g. economy / deck seats.
  • Discount for seniors: most ferry companies offer discounts for passengers over 60. Please note that this discount usually applies only to certain types of seats, e.g. economy / deck seats.

Please note that you always have to book a ticket for infants and children, regardless of whether they are assigned a separate seat or not. In order to be able to select a child or infant fare when booking your tickets, you will have to add an adult passenger first and then the child / infant. Once you have selected the fare, click 'Verify price' to view the total price for your booking.

It is common for ferry companies to offer discounts for local university students. Please note that discounts may not apply to all dates and destinations.

If you are studying in a higher education institution, you can select the relevant discount during your booking. Please note that you will be asked to show your student card before boarding, so make sure that you bring it with you on the day of your trip.

Some ferry companies also provide discounts for international students who have an ISIC card. You can visit the official ISIC website for up-to-date information on companies that offer a discount to ISIC cardholders.

Ferry companies usually offer discounts for large families. In order to be eligible for this discount you need to have a large family card / certificate issued by the state. Please note that discounts for large families may not apply to all destinations, as large family cards / certificates are usually valid only for trips in the issuing country.

Kindly note that some Greek ferry companies (e.g. Blue Star Ferries) also offer discounts for three children families.

The Island Resident Number (MAN) concerns permanent residents, permanently employed people living in the Greek islands and the companies operating in these regions. Individuals, families and professionals with a MAN number are beneficiaries of the Transport Equivalent Law (Metaforiko Isodynamo), according to which the cost of transport by sea is equated with the cost of land travel via intercity bus service (KTEL). You can use your MAN number when booking your Ferryhopper ferry ticket and you will receive the corresponding discounted money in your account at the end of the month.

The Island Resident Number is personal and issued once. Children and dependent members are entitled to MAN only if they have been declared in the tax return of the main beneficiary.

The ‘Camping on Board’ offer is provided by the ferry companies ANEK Lines and Superfast Ferries for ferry routes between Italy and Greece (not available on Italy-Corfu and v.v. route and onboard ASTERION II). Passengers can spend the journey in the comfort of their own camper / caravan, while the offer also includes:

  • Open deck space for your camper or caravan
  • Access to 220-volt power outlets
  • Access to onboard showers and WCs
  • Access to all public areas on the ferry, such as bars, restaurants, etc.

For safety reasons, the use of gas stoves, liquid gas stoves, or any fuel is strictly forbidden.

Business / VIP class seats are more spacious and comfortable. They are usually located on the upper deck of the ferry, offering a better view compared to the economy / standard class seats. Moreover, the business / VIP area is usually less crowded.

Numbered seats are similar to airplane seats, but they are much more spacious. If you choose this type of seat, you will be able to walk around more areas of the ferry, while making sure that you have a reserved seat. If you opt for a deck-lounge ticket instead, you will be able to sit wherever you like in the ferry lounge or on the deck, but you will not have a reserved seat. Kindly note that some vessels do not have a deck and the cheapest option will be the numbered seats.

Ferryhopper discount coupons are valid for a single booking and can be used only once unless the coupon restrictions state otherwise. Coupons cannot be used cumulatively and are non-transferrable.

Each coupon has its own expiration date and cannot be used for cheaper ferry tickets once the designated date has passed.

Also, bear in mind that if you wish to change a booking completed with a Ferryhopper discount coupon, the coupon cannot be applied anew. This means you need to pay for any difference in price, including the original coupon value and any ticket price difference.

The Seasmiles loyalty and reward scheme by Blue Star Ferries, Superfast Ferries and Hellenic Seaways offers discounts on ferry tickets to the Greek islands. More specifically, it applies to ferry routes to and from the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, Crete, the Northeast Aegean islands and the Saronic Gulf islands. It is easy to register, and as soon as you do, you can use your card number to collect points and get exclusive offers and discounts when booking your tickets. The scheme offers discounts on passenger and vehicle tickets for all types of seats as well as on purchases at the food service outlets on board. The discount type and amount depend on the destination and the type of ferry.
The loyalty card discounts can be used only by the card owner, which means that the name on the ticket and the name on the loyalty card should match

You can add the number of your Seasmiles loyalty card during the booking process in our website after you select the trip you're interested in. There is an indication right after you fill in the passenger's details.
Please keep in mind that the discount from the Seasmiles loyalty card cannot be combined with a further special offer/discount option.

Please make sure that you have your Seasmiles loyalty card with you on the day of your trip. You will be asked to present it before boarding, as well as to collect points when making purchases at the ferry shops, cafe-bars and restaurants.
